Due to adverse weather conditions, approximately a thousand schools across nine provinces of the country have been affected in some way by the disaster, stated Mr. Nalaka Kaluwawwe, Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

Accordingly, he pointed out that around one hundred thousand school-going children have been impacted by the disaster in some form.

However, he mentioned that schools in areas not severely affected by the disaster have already been decided to reopen on the 16th of this month.

“We expect to issue an official announcement today (8th) or tomorrow (9th) regarding which regions and schools will be reopened.

Along with the reopening of these schools, efforts are currently underway to conduct the A/L examination papers that were not held during the exam on time in January 2026,” he added
